Dzani Ashi Management & Information System Week 3

Lecture
In this week's lecture we learned about the different computer types and what each type of computer is typically used for as well as their individual standard costs and how many users can access them simultaneously. We also learned about the components of an IS infrastructure and how it enables the processing, storage and transmitting of data and we learned about the issues related to IS infrastructures which are usually; software obsolescence, storage needs and space and facility requirements. We also learned more about what the internet actually is, how it works as a system and how it was made in the first place and we also learned about the different types of computer networks such as; PBX, LAN and CAN. Thanks to the information regarding IS that we covered in our lecture we had a better idea of what kind of questions we would need to ask our chosen business to get the information we needed for our group presentation.

Seminar
In this week's seminar we continued our work in making use of Excel to formulate and organised data, this time around we mainly created spreadsheets while following a step-by-step guideline of how the spreadsheet should look and the figures we needed to fill in. As we filled in the spreadsheets we went through which formals to use as a class to ensure that we all understood what we were doing and that we were all on the same page. We also learned about how to make use of the dollar sign in an Excel spreadsheet.

Group Work
We made significant progress in our group work recently, this week we were able to organize and attend a meeting with our chosen business where we discussed about what sort of business they were and what parts of the world they operate in. We were able to gain a significant amount of information regarding how our chosen business makes use of their IS and how important it is to their business operations, we were also able to identify two issues that the company has experienced related to their IS meaning that we now have the information we need to start coming up with suitable solutions to their issues and begin laying the groundwork for our group presentations.
